The translation of the ETIM Product Group, Cable & Wire Entry Systems is now complete for the UK. This means that 27 ETIM Product Groups have been translated for the UK, leaving 60 remaining.

Over the course of their two meetings, the technical discussions tackled:
- 56 classes – examples include cable glands, thread converter, branch joint and mechanical connector
- 23 units – examples include decibel, kiloampere, ohms
- 143 values – examples include IP67, MVQ (silicone), stainless steel V2A
- 79 features or attributes – examples include bore diameter, shrink technique, and thread type
26 ETIM-UK Working Groups tasked with translating 87 ETIM Product Groups
David Bate, ETIM-UK Project Manager, explained the EDA-led process to translate Cable and Wire Entry Systems and the other 86 electro-technical product groups within ETIM for the UK market:
“We’ve developed a programme of 26 ETIM-UK Standardization Working Groups, through which we’ll translate 87 ETIM product groups. Our Standardisation Working Groups will need to work through multiple ETIM product groups: some are tackling 10 ETIM product groups across 1 or 2 meetings.
“Trying to combine the ETIM product groups into workable time-efficient translation groups is the challenge. We had to make sure we made the best use of everyone’s time by grouping similar products together.”
Uploading the translations to ETIM v.7 or ETIM Dynamic
“The process to get the UK translations accepted as part of the ETIM model is the same for every product group, “ explains David, “Now that the translations for Cable & Wire Entry Systems are complete, my role is to collate all the decisions and circulate it to the manufacturer experts for a final check. Once that’s done and everyone is 100 per cent happy with the translations, I’ll liaise with ETIM International who will process and upload these translations into ETIM v. 7 or ETIM Dynamic.”
